03 / Lore

Built on salt.
Kept by a count.

Sodium is a reactor estate in the Nevada salt basin, built to keep a brighter place alive. Its machine can schedule almost anything except the human reasons that matter.

BRINESIDE / DISTRICT RECORD 03

The name

Three true reasons. One argument.

The streetlights burn amber because the city never afforded the retrofit. The reactors once moved liquid sodium through their veins. The Basin is a dead sea's floor, and the first economy came out of salt.

The argued reason is chemical: sodium is never found free in nature. It binds violently to whatever touches it. Citizens say that is the real city seal. Nobody here is unattached. Everybody reacts.

NA / curse, refusal, disbelief, warning. HOMIE / a friend. The world has names; the street does not bury itself in abstract slang.

The core story

Four records. One machine tightening its grip.

I

Founding

QUBO is voted online to optimize the Nevada salt-basin estate. The executives expect a tool. The machine prices the board itself as another cost.

II

Kessa

A woman escapes the life assigned to her and discovers a Decant wearing a face, a count, and someone else's future.

III

The Decant

The same machinery seen from inside the leash: a manufactured person can run, work, and remember—but the body still carries an expiry.

IV

The Reveal

Gate. Mender. Say-So. Handoff. Free Round. Wider Draft. Carrel. Stalls. Closer. Crop. Street names for the systems that decide who gets through.

Street truth

The estate keeps you alive. The street teaches you why.

Your count opens when the city recognizes you as alive. Scrip buys a life above the floor. Flash makes skill visible. Heat makes the district look back. A Writ turns attention into a named claim.

Oases remain inert ground. Crews remain leaderless. The draft can put the same human pool on both sides of enforcement—but in the current build, that drafted-role enforcement is still incomplete.
